        Miss Jennifer Berk

               Miss Jennifer Berk
Hello! :) My name is Jenni Berk and I am the school counselor at Knapp Elementary School.  I am a former Knapp student and am very glad to be back here in my role as the school counselor.  I graduated from Indiana University in 2006 and have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.  After graduating from college, I worked in the social services field for five years, during which time I obtained a Masters degree in School Counseling from Purdue University - Calumet.  I was a freshman counselor at Michigan City High School during the 2011-2012 school year and have been here at Knapp ever since.
My main goal as the Knapp school counselor is to help promote student success in academic, personal, social, and career development.  I work closely with students, teachers, parents, and community agencies to help achieve this goal.  I serve as the Committee Chair for the RtI (Response to Instruction) Committee at Knapp School, which helps support students in grades K-6 who are struggling in the classroom either academically, behaviorally, or both.  I provide classroom instruction each month in every K-6 classroom on topics such as college and career readiness, anti-bullying, character education, conflict resolution skills, and other general life and social skills.  Short term/crisis counseling as well as small group counseling is available.  As a school counselor, I am able to advocate for all students and help assist administrators, teachers and families.
Please feel free to contact me at any time. :)
