Holiday Helpers
Michigan City Area Schools Transportation Dept. Staff, Food Service Staff, and students and teachers from the A. K. Smith Center Facilities Maintenance class made the rounds to all schools in the MCAS district on December 11th to collect canned goods and nonperishable food items, part of a massive district-wide collection drive for the Salvation Army that has become a holiday tradition. Thousands (!) of items were collected, filling a school bus and a large delivery truck. The food will be used in holiday baskets for families in need; it will also help keep the food pantry stocked through January. Several schools also collected new books for area children and teens, part of "Operation Bookworm" drive and some donated toys for the Salvation Army's annual Christmas distribution.
